Dr Nicola Hancock, of the University of East Anglia, has been working with Design Council to continue her work on a new device that could help adults who have had a stroke regain their ability to walk.
Working alongside the University’s Research and Enterprise Services (REN), Dr Hancock had previously developed a prototype device known as UPED1. The device was intended for use by people who, despite substantial muscle weakness after a stroke, need to get walking as soon as possible as part of their rehabilitation.
In order to progress the concept of UPED1, Dr Hancock has since enlisted the help of a Design Council coaching programme which specialises in commercialising research.
