Development on-going for a device to improve mobility in people who have had a stroke

Dr Nicola Hancock, of the University of East Anglia, has been working with Design Council to continue her work on a new device that could help adults who have had a stroke regain their ability to walk.

Working alongside the University’s Research and Enterprise Services (REN), Dr Hancock had previously developed a prototype device known as UPED1. The device was intended for use by people who, despite substantial muscle weakness after a stroke, need to get walking as soon as possible as part of their rehabilitation.

In order to progress the concept of UPED1, Dr Hancock has since enlisted the help of a Design Council coaching programme which specialises in commercialising research.

More information about the development of this device and the role of the Design Council can be found on the Design Council Website, at the following link-
